A Mini Update....

Survey Results

by Libby Hartman

Hi Members! A HUGE thank you to the 153 members who completed the Member Survey. This represents about 32% of our membership and crossed all skill levels, gender, and duration of membership. I’ll draft a summary for the next newsletter, but in the meantime, you can look at the results here and on the Sequim Pickler website. Highlights of what you’ll see in the results:

  • 58% of respondents fall in the 2.0-2.9 skill levels

  • 60% of respondents were female, 39% male (1 person preferred not to say)

  • We are a diverse group when it comes to our Goals for playing pickleball and how we want to do this, 59% wanting clinics, drilling and tournament play as part of their goals.

  • Most respondents (70%) play more than 3 days per week

  • 71% of respondents reported being Satisfied or Highly Satisfied with the clubs’ current programs and activities, 29% are Somewhat satisfied or dissatisfied and 70% of 4.0+ respondents reported being Somewhat satisfied or Dissatisfied

  • While 73% said the camaraderie and community of Sequim Picklers is very important to them, only 24% said that they’d like to see more organized social events.

  • 80 people indicated that YES, they are willing to volunteer for various type of events, committee work, etc. Fair warning – we’ll be calling on you!!

 . . . . . more to come!

The new Selkirks are here! Hopefully, you've all noticed by now that we have some fabulous new pickleballs to play with. I wanted to reach out and explain our thought process on the large purchase of the Selkirk balls.

In June we purchased 300 balls for $600. It has been less than 6 months and we needed to make another purchase, anticipating greater wear during the colder months.

Goose and Gayle conducted a two-month ball study, and the Selkirks outperformed the Franklins by a wide margin. The PCOC and the Board felt like the 30 percent discount Selkirk offered helped make this a good investment. During this time I have done research on the best practices to store pickleballs and we will follow that protocol as closely as we can.

We are not sure how the one-year warranty will work with industrial play. We do believe, however, that we can make a return if we get a poor-performing batch. It is important that you help us out by not crushing the balls as they crack and misshapen with use. Please place all cracked balls in the black net on the shed door.

On another note, the Holiday Mixer will be happening at 6:30 on December 13th at the Boys and Girls Club. This is different than the usual 6:00 play time because we are unable to get into the Teen Room until 6:15 p.m. We have access to a full kitchen and the gym, so plan on bringing your favorite dish for the potluck, and come celebrate, socialize, and play with some new faces via randomized draws.

Member's Only Links

New to the Sequim Picklers website? Here are a few tips:

  • Changes in weather may mean changes in scheduled play. The Homepage has a "pop-up" that announces these changes. Check back often to see what's new with the Club.

  • Have you ever used the search bar in the upper right corner? It's amazing what tidbits can be found on the website with this tool.

  • Are you aware that there is a webpage on our site called Events? You will find information about upcoming activities in this area.

  • The Member's Only page password is SweetOrDill23 (please note this changed on August 10th). Save this for future use, but please don't share it with non-members.

The last Sequim Picklers' Update of the year will reach your email inbox on December 16th. If you would like to contribute an article, picture, or link, please send your submission to Tanya Baumgardner no later than December 11th.
