SEQUIM PICKLERS

The Picklers' Story

In 2010, four women began meeting regularly at Third and Fir Streets in Sequim to try a new game called pickleball. They invited friends, who in turn invited more friends, and the group grew. By 2015, with around 45 players, a formal club was established and named the Sequim Picklers. With the support of Sequim Family Advocates (which provided charitable status), pro bono attorney Alan Millet, and pro bono CPA Jeanne Martin, the club acquired non-profit status, enabling fundraising efforts for the construction of a public pickleball facility.

Over several years, substantial funds were raised, architectural drawings were donated by Sequim Pickler Christiane Ganss-Johnson, and an agreement was reached with the City of Sequim to manage the court construction.

In August 2017, preliminary court construction began at Carrie Blake Park under city supervision. The courts were completed and opened for play on June 28, 2018. For a pictorial history, click here.

This small but dedicated club has grown into the premier pickleball club on the Olympic Peninsula, boasting more than 500 members, a robust organized play schedule, and tournaments that attract players from across the United States and Canada. We play at the outdoor courts in Carrie Blake Park and at the Boys and Girls Club at 4th and Fir Streets. Our club offers both open play and organized play.

We have enjoyed court exchange programs with Port Ludlow, Anacortes, and Gig Harbor, and we regularly offer free lessons to local residents interested in learning the game.

Additionally, we have provided training sessions for youth at the Boys and Girls Club in Sequim and have traveled to LaPush to teach the school children and staff. Pickleball has become a regular activity in both locations.

Thank you to all our generous donors who support the club and our projects.
